Arden Engraving has produced the dies for an award-winning label used on a luxury rum brand.

Label manufacturer The Label Makers have scooped the Label of the Year title at the recent UK Packaging Awards, as well as the Special Effects in Labels and Packaging gong in the Digital Printer Awards 2019, in recognition of their intricately embellished label on the Diablesse rum brand.

Arden Engraving is proud to have produced the foiling dies for the label, which was achieved using a combination of flat foil and embossing to create the beautiful detailed effect.

The label tells the story of ‘Diablesse’, a temptress from the Caribbean whose character is brought to life through a rich illustrative approach and punctuated with an indulgent use of luxury gold foil to represent the depth of blend in the rum itself.

Sarah Poynter, Operations Manager at Arden Engraving, said: “We’re incredibly proud to have produced the foiling dies for this award-winning luxury rum label, which is a real masterpiece and truly brings the brand to life.

“We’ve seen a real surge in demand for embossing and foiling finishes on packaging and labels, which can help achieve a real sense of luxury and embellishment, as is demonstrated on the Diablesse rum bottle.

“We worked closely with The Label Makers, combining the highest precision engineering and cutting-edge machinery to create a tooling solution that would deliver the finest of finishes, so it’s fantastic to see the end result recognised with the coveted Label of the Year title in such prestigious industry awards.”

Printed with great attention to detail, the label captures the fine intricacies of the illustration and is complimented by overlays of embossed matt-gold foiling and remarkable detailing. The Label Makers used Fasson Matt Wine FSC material in the process, digitally printed in eight colours then hot foiled with a sculptured die and further embellished with subtle blind embossing.

David Webster, managing director of The Label Makers, added: “The purpose of the label was to tell the brand’s story and create an intimate interaction with consumers. This has been achieved through the diligent reproduction of the fine detail of the illustration and the liberal use of matt gold foiling to capture the essence of intrigue and mystery. We are delighted with how the label has been received to-date.”
